Spring Select Tournament Guidelines

AREA 1H
SPRING SELECT RULES

PLAYER ELIGIBILTY:

Players must have played in at least one half of the primary season league games to be eligible for the select season. Any exceptions to this must be made by the Area Director.

PLAYERS:

All players must play at least three quarters of every game; failure to comply will result in the forfeit of the game.

DRESS CODE:

Shin guards are mandatory, and the socks shall cover the shin guards completely. The shin guards must be worn under the socks. Only issued uniforms may be worn. Sweatshirts may be worn under the jersey (no hooded sweatshirts) and must all be of the same color for the whole team. Cleats are recommended but are not mandatory. Players with long fingernails who do not wish to cut them may wear gloves. Jewelry is not allowed except for medical alert bracelets which must be taped to the body. Body or facial piercings including tongue piercings are not allowed.

COACHES:
A Qualified Coach (whether the head coach or assistant coach; collectively “Coaches”) is an adult who has taken and been certified in all of AYSO’s current “health and safety” protocols, including:
• Safe Haven • CDC’s Concussion • Sudden Cardiac Arrest
• Current (unexpired) SafeSport training •Current(unexpired)satisfactory Live Scan
• Current (unexpired) satisfactory AYSO (Sterling) background check
• AYSO-trained as a coach in the team’s division (or higher).

Each coach will conduct themselves in a manner, becoming an AYSO volunteer and will encourage clean competition and good sportsmanship. They will exhibit positive coaching and respect for referees and Spring Select Area Staff at all times. Coaches are responsible for the appropriate decorum of all players, parents, and spectators on their sidelines or associated with their teams. Coaches shall not dissent calls by the Referee or Assistant Referees. Coaches shall actively encourage parents and spectators to exhibit similar respect and restraint. It is the Coaches’ responsibility to monitor the behavior of their team’s players and spectators and to be proactive in promptly correcting behavior problems before or immediately as they arise. This includes supporting any referee's decision regarding play on the field (even if they privately disagree with the call or non-call) or poor behavior from any player, coach, or spectator.
Coaching (giving technical advice to the players) during the match is restricted to one Qualified Coach and one Assistant Qualified Coach. They must coach on their own side of the field and remain in the technical area.

REFEREES:

The diagonal system of control is the only permitted method of control for all Spring Select matches.
It will be the responsibility of the Home Team to supply a team of three Qualified Referees for each match. A one-to-two-person team will be allowed for 8U. However, a three-person team is highly recommended. A team of Qualified Referees must be available within 15 minutes of the scheduled start time or field availability, whichever is later.
With the Referee’s consent, a match may be played without the Qualified Referees assisting the referee. Untrained parents may fill the position of club linesperson(s) if it is deemed safe to do so by the Referee. A club linesperson must behave as a neutral person and may not cheer or give tactical advice during the match. Club linespersons are not qualified to call offsides nor any fouls.
All center referees must be at least basic referee certified as well as being a current volunteer. The referees must be dressed appropriately in the AYSO approved referee uniform.

Any referee issues should be address to the Area Referee Administrator (Manuel Del Rio) at [email protected].

FORFEIT TIME:

There will be a fifteen-minute grace period after the scheduled start of the game before a forfeit may be declared.

RESCHEDULING OF GAMES:

Games will be played as scheduled unless the need to change them is warranted. Changing a scheduled game will be done based on extremely rare circumstances and only with the approval of both involved Regional Commissioners. Any such change must be sent to the Area Director, as soon as possible and no later than prior to the scheduled day of the match. There will be NO rescheduling of games on the last Friday and Saturday of play for the regular select season.

DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS:

Red cards and or coach ejections must be reported to the Area Director immediately so that all parties involved in the next game are notified of the red carded player or coach. Any player receiving a red card for fighting or physical threat to a referee will be expelled from the select program. This rule will also apply to any coach who is ejected for the same offense. Each Regional Commissioner will be responsible for assuring compliance with any decision made about discipline.

REPORTING OF SCORES:

Scores must be reported for games played at your home field only to the Area Select Coordinator by Tuesday 5:00 PM. All game cards front and back must be scanned and sent to the Area Director. A picture emailed to the Area Select Coordinator will suffice. The standings will be posted at 6:00 PM Wednesday. If scores are not reported, they will not be counted as part of the standings. The scores for the last Saturday of the season must be reported by twelve noon on Sunday following the Saturday games. This is do to the fact that the playoffs/tournament begins the next week and all Regional Commissioners or select coordinators will need time to notify their teams of the game schedule.
Area Director Franco Castro [email protected]
Area Select Coordinator Nellie Castro [email protected]

STANDINGS/POINTS SYSTEM:

The points for the standings shall be as follows:

6 points for a win
1 point per goal (3 max)
1 point for shoutout
3 points for a tie
-2 points for each red card/ejection for player, coach, or spectator.

ROSTERS:

The official rosters for all teams must be sent to the Area Spring Select Coordinator by March 31. You may make any changes to the roster up until March 31. There will be no further changes allowed after the cutoff date of March 31. This does not include Tournament Rosters.
Any changes to the roster after the above date will make the player ineligible for the select tournament and any games the player participated in after the above date will be forfeited.
Players are eligible to play in a match only if they are included on the team’s current Roster. Before the start of each match, the team will present the referee with the current Roster.
Referees have no discretion about excluding a team or player from playing if the Roster is missing or the player is not listed on the team’s Roster, even if the player was only recently added to the team.
If a team does not present a Roster to the referee prior to the start of the game, the team forfeits the game. If both teams do not have Rosters, the game becomes a mutual forfeit (0 Standings Points for each team). In those circumstances, teams may play a scrimmage, but the results of the scrimmage will not count in the Spring Select standings.

REGIONS:
The top 4 teams in each division will advance to the Select Playoffs.

If there are ties for the top 4 teams they will be broken as follows

Head-to-head
Sportsmanship (least yellow or red cards/ejections)
Least goals allowed
Coin flip

Please note: The home team will be responsible for putting up the goals, nets, and corner flags for the field. If you have the last game of the day, the home team is responsible for taking down the goals, nets, and corner flags.

OTHER AYSO RULES: INTERPRETATION OF THE GUIDELINES:

The Area Director(s) and staff will have the responsibility to interpret and apply these guidelines in their discretion, in the spirit of the guidelines when a situation may not be specifically addressed herein. AYSO National Rules & Regulations shall apply throughout the Spring Select season.
